This standard addresses ground-to-air, air-to-air, ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship tactical single channel UHF radio communications equipment. The requirements established by this document may be exceeded in order to satisfy specific operational requirements or to incorporate technological improvements, provided that interoperability be maintained.

International   Interest.     Certain   provisions   of   this   standard   (see   4.3)   are   the   subject   of International standardization agreements (STANAG 4205).   When an  amendment, revision, or cancellation  of  this  standard  is  proposed   which  will  modify  the  international  agreement concerned,    the    preparing    activity    will    take    appropriate    action    through    international standardization   channels,   including   departmental   standardization   offices,   to   change   the agreement or make other appropriate accommodations.
