The requirements established by this document may be exceeded in order to satisfy specific operational requirements or to incorporate technological improvements, provided that interoperability be maintained.

FOREWORD

1. This Military Standard is approved and mandatory for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense (DoD) in accordance with Joint Technical Architecture (JTA) Version 6, dated 3 October 2003.

This document contains technical standards and design objectives for minimum interface and performance standards pertinent to Tactical Single Channel Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radio Communications. In this document, the word "shall" identifies mandatory system standards. The word "should" identifies DOs that are desirable but not mandatory.
